About Harris Institute For the Arts - Toronto


Established in 1989, the Harris Institute has become one of North America's preeminent educators in the field of audio production and the music industry. It was selected in the U.S. as one of Mix Magazine's “Finest Media Arts Institutions,” and its graduates are in leading positions throughout the Canadian music industry.
The school specializes in comprehensive one-year Diploma Programs in Recording Arts Management and the Producing/Engineering Program. Both programs have a focus on entrepreneurial and business skills and are taught by an award-winning, 68-member faculty.
Program start dates are in November, March and July, offering you the flexibility to launch your music industry career according to your own schedule and commitments.
Through a partnership with the University of West Scotland, Harris graduates can earn a degree in eight months in UWS’s School of Media, Language and Music.

  • Harris International Program (HIP)
    The partnership between Harris Institute and the University of Paisley in Glasgow, Scotland enables Paisley students to complete overseas work placements in Toronto and Harris Honours Diploma graduates to earn BA and BSc degrees at the University of Paisley's School of Media Language and Music. Tuitions are being waived by both institutions.

    Production Engineering Program (PEP)
    The Producing/Engineering Program is designed to teach art, technology and business of recorded music production. With a focus on conventional an new recording techniques, the student will be equipped to enter the broadest range of sound recording careers.

    Professional Development Program (PDP)
    The Professional Development Program is the new online and weekend program supported by the Ministry of Culture and the Ontario Media Development Corporation.

    Recording Arts Management Program (RAM)
    The Recording Arts Management Program is designed to teach management function as it applies to the Music Industry. With a focus on management skills, the student will be equipped to enter the broadest range of management careers within the Music Industry.
